The spells list for IAM students, spells listed only go from years 1 - 7. The Master Class 8th - 12th are encouraged to create their own spells. It is also optional to fill in any spells that are missing from an individuals spell list.

Accio (Summoning Charm) 3rd Charm (Utility) Summons an object to the caster, potentially over a significant distance. Its opposite (Counter spell) is the Banishing Charm.
Aguamenti (Aguamenti Charm) 2nd Charm Produces a jet of water from the caster's wand.
Alohomora (Unlocking Charm) 2nd Charm (Utility) Opens and/or unlocks doors, but doors can be bewitched so that this spell has no effect
Anapneo 1st Charm (Healing) Clears the target's airway, if blocked.
Anti-Cheating Spell 1st Charm (Utility) Cast on parchment or quills to prevent the writer from cheating whilst writing answers.
Anti-Disapparition Jinx 6th Jinx/Protective (Offensive/Defensive) Prevents Disapparition and/or Apparition in an area for a period.
Aparecium 3rd Transfiguration (Utility) This spell makes invisible ink appear.
Avada Kedavra (Killing Curse) 7th Curse (Offensive) Causes instant, painless death to whomever the curse hits. (One of the Unforgivable Curses)
Avis 5th Transfiguration (Offensive/Defensive) Creates a flock of birds from the caster's wand. When coupled with Oppugno, it can be used offensively.
Babbling Curse 3rd Hex (Offensive/Devensive) The Babbling Curse is presumed to cause a person to babble whenever they try to speak
Banishing Charm 4th Charm (Utility) Opposite to "Accio". Banishes the object the spell is performed on.
Bat-Bogey Hex 4th Hex (Offensive) Grotesquely enlarges the target's bogeys, gives them wings, and sets them attacking the target.
Bedazzling Hex 5th Hex (Defensive/Utility) Similar to a Disillusionment Charm, it can be used to conceal a person or an object. Is also used to make invisibility cloaks.
Bubble-Head Charm 2nd Charm (Defensive/Utility) Puts a large bubble of air around the head of the user. Used as a magical equivalent of a scuba set or self-contained breathing apparatus.
Caterwauling Charm 4th Charm/Protective (Defensive/Utility) Anyone entering the perimeter of a Caterwauling Charm sets off a high-pitched shriek.
Cave Inimicum 5th Charm/Protective (Defensive) Spell used to strengthen an enclosure from enemies.
Cheering Charm 3rd Charm (Utility) Causes the victim to become happy and contented, may cause the person to break into an uncontrollable laughing fit.
Colloportus 4th Charm (Defensive) Magically locks a door, preventing it from being opened by Muggle means.
Colour-Change Charm 1st Charm (Utility) Changes an object's colour.
Confringo (Blasting Curse) 6th Transfiguration (Offensive/Utility) Causes anything that the spell meets to explode in flames.
Confundo (Confundus Charm) 3rd Charm (Offensive) Causes the victim to become confused, befuddled, overly forgetful and prone to follow simple orders without thinking about them.
Conjunctivitus Curse 6th Curse (Offensive) A curse that causes great pain to the victim's eyes.
Crucio (Cruciatus Curse) 7th Curse (Offensive) Inflicts unbearable pain on the recipient of the curse. (One of the three Unforgivable Curses)
Defodio (Gouging Spell) 2nd Transfiguration (Utility) Can carve or dig out materials, such as stone and steel.
Deletrius 5th Transfiguration (Utility) Removes evidence of previous spells cast by the wand, revealed by Prior Incantato.
Densaugeo 3rd Jinx (Offensive/Utility) Causes the teeth of the recipient to grow at an alarming rate.
Deprimo 4th Transfiguration (Offensive/Utility) A very powerful wind that can loosen and/or soften a variety of things; it can also be used to detach objects.
Descendo 3rd Transfiguration (Offensive/Utility) Makes things sink, or go down.
Diffindo (Severing Charm) 3rd Charm (Offensive/Utility) Cuts or rips objects.
Disillusionment Charm 5th Charm Causes the target to become invisible, or close to it.
Dissendium 2nd Charm (Utility) Reveals a secret passage
Duro 6th Transfiguration Makes the object hard.
Engorgio (Engorgement Charm) 3rd Charm Causes objects to swell in size.
Entrail-Expelling Curse 7th Curse Presumably causes the entrails (i.e. intestines) to be ejected from the body.
Episkey 3rd Transfiguration/Healing (Utility) Used to heal relatively minor injuries. When this spell is cast, the person feels his/her injured body part go very hot and then very cold.
Erecto 3rd Charm (Utility) Used to erect something.
Evanesco (Vanishing Spell) 4th Transfiguration (Utility) Makes the target vanish.
Expecto Patronum (Patronus Charm) 5th Charm/Protective (Defensive Utility) Conjures an incarnation of the caster's innermost positive feelings, such as joy or hope, known as a Patronus.
Expelliarmus (Disarming Charm) 1st Charm (Defensive) This spell is used to disarm another wizard, typically by causing the victim's wand to fly out of reach.
Expulso 3rd Transfiguration (Defensive) A spell that causes an object to explode. The force of the explosion may depend on the intent of the caster.
Ferula 4th Transfiguration/Healing (Utility) Creates a bandage and a splint.
Fidelius Charm 4th Charm/Protective (Defensive) A charm involving secret information hidden within the soul of a Secret-Keeper. This information is irretrievable until the Secret-Keeper chooses to reveal it; those who have the secret revealed to them cannot reveal it to others.
Fiendfyre Curse 7th Curse (Offensive) Dangerous, uncontrollable and extremely powerful fire which can take the form of beasts such as serpents, Chimaeras, and dragons.
Finite Incantatem 3rd Charm Negates many spells or the effects of many spells.
Flagrate 4th Transfiguration (Utility) With this spell, the caster's wand can leave fiery marks.
Flame-Freezing Charm 2nd Charm (Defensive/Utility) Causes fire to become harmless to those caught in it, creating only a gentle, tickling sensation instead of burns.
Flying Charm 5th Charm (Utility) Cast on broomsticks, and (presumably) magic carpets to make them fly.
Freezing Charm 3rd Charm (Utility) Renders target immobile.
Furnunculus (Furnunculus Curse) 3rd Hex (Offensive) Causes the target to become covered in boils.
Geminio 6th Transfiguration (Utility) Creates a duplicate of any object upon which it is cast. Any copies created are worthless. The duplicate lasts several hours. Magical properties, at least of a Horcrux, are not copied.
Gemino Curse 7th Transfiguration (Defensive Utility) Objects affected by this curse duplicates itself into many useless copies and eventually fill the surrounding area with copies, the copies also duplicate to hide the original.
Glisseo 2nd Transfiguration (Defensive/Utility) Causes the steps on a stairway to flatten and form a ramp or slide.
Gripping Charm 1st Charm (Utility) Used to help someone grip something with more effectiveness.
Hair Loss Curse 4th Hex (Offensive) Causes one to lose one's hair.
Hair-Thickening Charm 1st Charm (Utility) Thickens one's hair.
Homenum Revelio 3rd Charm (Utility) Reveals humans near the caster.
Homorphus Charm 6th Charm (Utility) Causes an Animagus or transfigured object to assume its normal shape.
Horton-Keitch Braking Charm 3rd Charm (Utility) This spell was first used on the Comet 140 to prevent players from overshooting the goal posts and from flying off-sides.
Hot-Air Charm 2nd Charm (Utility) Causes wand to emit hot air.
Hover Charm 1st Charm (Utility) An object is levitated off the ground and moved according to the caster.
Hurling Hex 2nd Jinx Causes brooms to vibrate violently in the air and try to buck their rider off.
Impedimenta (Impediment Jinx, Impediment Curse) 2nd Jinx Capable of tripping, freezing, binding, knocking back and generally impeding the target's progress towards the caster.
Imperio (Imperius Curse) 7th Curse (Offensive) Causes the victim of the curse to obey the spoken/unspoken commands of the caster.
Imperturbable Charm 3rd Charm (Defensive/Utility) Makes objects such as doors impenetrable (by everything, including sounds and objects).
Impervius (Impervius Charm) 3rd Charm (Defensive/Utility) This spell makes something repel (literally, become impervious to) substances and outside forces, including water.
Incarcerous 4th Transfiguration Ties someone or something up with ropes.
Incendio 1st Transfiguration Produces fire. Flames burst out flying.
Intruder Charm 1st Charm/Protection (Defensive/Utility) Detects intruders and sounds an alarm.
Jelly-Brain Jinx 2nd Jinx Presumably affects the target's mental processes.
Jelly-Fingers Curse 4th Curse (Offensive) Causes the target's fingers to become almost jelly-like to make it impossible for the victim to grasp objects.
Jelly-Legs Jinx 3rd Jinx (Offensive/Defensive) Renders its victim's legs temporarily useless, leaving him/her to wobble around helplessly until the effect wears off or the counter-jinx is performed.
Knee-Reversal Hex 3rd Hex (Offensive) Causes the victim's knees to appear on the opposite side of his/her legs.
Langlock 3rd Jinx (Offensive/Defensive) Glues the victim's tongue to the roof of his/her mouth. Created by Severus Snape.
Legilimens (Legilimency) 7th (Charm) Allows the caster to delve into the mind of the victim, allowing the caster to see the memories, thoughts, and emotions of the victim.
Levicorpus 4th Charm The victim is dangled upside-down by one of his/her ankles, sometimes accompanied by a flash of white light. Created by Severus Snape. Its counter curse is Liberacorpus.
Liberacorpus 4th Charm/Protective The counter spell to Levicorpus. Created by Severus Snape.
Locomotor 2nd Charm (Utility) The spell causes the named object to rise in the air and move around at the will of the caster.
Locomotor Mortis (Leg-Locker Curse) 1st Jinx (Offensive/Defensive) Locks the legs together, preventing the victim from moving the legs in any fashion.
Lumos 1st Charm (Utility) Creates a narrow beam of light that shines from the wand's tip.
Meteolojinx Recanto 2nd Charm/Protective Causes weather effects caused by incantations to cease.
Mobiliarbus 2nd Charm (Utility) Lifts a tree a few inches off the ground and levitates it to where the caster points his or her wand.
Mobilicorpus 3rd Charm (Utility) Lifts a body a few inches off the ground and levitates it where the caster points his or her wand
Muffliato 4th Charm (Utility) Keeps nearby people, or those to whom the wand is directed, from hearing nearby conversations.
Nox 1st Charm Counter charm to the Lumos spell.
Occlumency (Occlumens) 7th (Charm) It can prevent a Legilimens from accessing one's thoughts and feelings, or influencing them.
Obliteration Charm 2nd Charm (Defensive/Utility) Removes things not wished to be seen again.
Obliviate (Memory Charm) 3rd Charm Used to hide a memory of a particular event.
Obscuro 2nd Transfiguration Causes a blindfold to appear over the victim's eyes, obstructing his/her view of his/her surroundings.
Oppugno 5th Tranfiguration Causes conjured objects to attack.
Orchideous 3rd Transfiguration (Utility) Makes a bouquet of flowers appear out of the caster's wand.
Pack 1st Charm (Utility) Packs a trunk, or perhaps any luggage.
Permanent Sticking Charm 3rd Charm (Utility) Makes objects permanently stay in place.
Petrificus Totalus (Body-Bind Curse) 1st Hex Used to temporarily bind the victim's body in a position much like that of a soldier at attention, the victim will usually fall to the ground.
Piertotum Locomotor 5th Transfiguration Spell used to animate statues and suits of armour to do the caster's bidding.
Placement Charm 1st Charm (Utility) A charm which temporarily places an object upon a desired target.
Point Me (Four-Point Spell) 3rd Charm (Utility) Causes the caster's wand tip to point to the north cardinal point, acting like a compass.
Portus 7th Transfiguration/Charm (Utility) Turns an object into a portkey. The object glows an odd blue colour to show it has been transformed into a portkey, then goes solid again.
Prior Incantato 7th Charm (Utility) Causes the echo (a shadow or image) of the last spell cast by a wand to emanate from it.
Protean Charm 6th Charm (Utility) Causes copies of an object to be remotely affected by changes made to the original.
Protego (Shield Charm) 1st Charm (Defensive/Utility) It can also cause a shield to erupt from the caster's wand causing minor to strong jinxes, curses, and hexes to rebound upon the attacker, or at least prevents them from having their full effect.
Protego Horribilis 5th Charm (Defensive/Utility) Provides some form of protection against Dark Magic.
Protego Totalum 4th Charm (Defensive/Utility) Provides protection of some form for an area or dwelling.
Quietus 3rd Charm (Utility) Makes a magically magnified voice return to normal.
Reducio 3rd Charm Makes an enlarged object smaller. Counter-charm to Engorgio.
Reducto (Reductor Curse) 4th Transfiguration Enables the caster to explode solid objects.
Refilling Charm 3rd Transfiguration Refills whatever at which the caster points with the drink originally in the container.
Relashio 3rd Charm A charm used to force someone or something to release that which it holds or grapples by means of shooting fiery sparks out or, underwater, shooting hot bursts of water.
Rennervate 3rd Charm/Healing (Utility) Brings someone out of unconsciousness.
Reparo 2nd Transguration Used to repair broken or damaged objects
Repelling Charm 6th Charm Pushes a moving object away from an invisible barrier.
Repello Muggletum (Muggle-Repelling Charm) 2nd Charm (Utility) Keeps Muggles away from wizarding places by causing them to remember important meetings they missed and to cause the Muggles in question to forget what they were doing in the first place.
Rictusempra (Tickling Charm) 2nd Charm The subject experiences the sensation of being tickled
Riddikulus 3rd Transfiguration Forces the Boggart to take the appearance of an object upon which the caster is concentrating.
Salvio Hexia 3rd Charm (Defensive) Provides some form of protection against hexes.
Scourgify (Scouring Charm) 2nd Charm (Utility) Used to clean something.

Tarantallegra 2nd Hex (Utility) Makes victim's legs dance uncontrollably, so the victim cannot control his or her movements (recalling the tarantella dance).
Tergeo 2nd Transfiguration (Utility) Siphons material from a surface, (e.g., blood, ink, dust, etc.)
Tongue-Tying Curse 7th Curse (Defensive/Utility) A curse that prevents certain information from being revealed by the individual upon whom the spell is placed. The curse manifests itself by causing the tongue to temporarily curl backwards upon itself.
